Johannes Karl Hartwig WeberI just received the Aramaic New Testament from Lulu. I am quite happy with the Ashuri script, however I do not understand why some proper names in the first verses of Matthew 1 are vocalized in different ways, as, for example, Hezron (v. 3) and Nahshon (vs. 4). Why the different 'o' sounds, i.e. 'aw' versus 'oo'? I'd be very glad if you answered this question because otherwise I find your book most excellent.
Ewan MacLeodHi Johannes,This is the way it is in Aramaic (in all Syriac New Testaments). Sometimes there is a slight vowel change when a word (such as these names) appears at the end of the clause. This is similar to what happens with Biblical Hebrew, where in chapters with list of names (such as genealogies) there is a vowel change when the name appears at the end of a clause.
