How Different are Hebrew and Aramaic?
Launch Interactive Lesson
Throughout a number of the lessons on this website, we have seen that Hebrew and Aramaic are closely related. As we have seen, if Hebrew is Judaism's Holy Language, then Aramaic is Judaism's second Holy Language.
As we will see in the series of lessons on the Aramaic Alphabet, both Hebrew and Aramaic share the 'Hebrew' Ashuri characters. The Ashuri letters are actually (originally) an Aramaic script.
With this close connection between Hebrew and Aramaic, people often ask just how close these two languages really are. In this lesson, we explore what they have in common, and how they differ.
